The original Oldsmobile Silhouette was weird, quirky, and bizarre. It was also the original luxury minivan, and today I'm reviewing the Silhouette to show you what it was like. I am also going to show you the quirks and features of the Silhouette, and I will show you how the Oldsmobile Silhouette drives.

If I were to list my favorite reviews, it would include the Vector W8 and this - the 1996 Oldsmobile Silhouette. It would be the only list, ever, that includes both the Vector W8 and the 1996 Oldsmobile Silhouette.

      1. Justin Jordan

Doug I would love a review of the DeTomaso Pantera

      2. daniel bohorquez

    2. Magnoler Riccardo

    3. Edward Garcia

0:22 completely forgotten ?? I didn’t even know it existed.

    4. Hunter Heath

No car makers put child seats in cars these days. Volvo am I a joke to you

    5. Alan Rogers

The Oldsmobile Silhouette, the Chevrolet Lumina, and the Pontiac Trans-port were basically triplet designs with some maker specific features. The concept was a wonderful design for Pontiac which got "GM'd", [reaf "cheapened"], into what you could buy. It started out as a feature-complete offering, but by the time they were on the sales floors, they had been stripped of everything cool, which left a hint of the original design.

My cousins from Cleveland, Ohio had TWO of them. A HIS and a HERS. [His was red, hers was white.]

    8. Gryf Ketcherside

Say what you like about the front end, it looks a lot like a Japanese Bullet Train, and that’s not a bad thing.

    9. Phil Howard

I had one in the 90s

    10. hockeyzythebest

      I'll buy it. Here's $100.00

    11. Schizy Moonstar

      Yesss the dustbuster vans

    12. Roger Skagerström

      Discount Renault Espace :P

    13. Lewis Lack

The auto sliding door I first experienced was on a Honda Stepwagon - a Japanese Domestic market vehicle that didn't get exported to the US or UK. But I have one and it is a great door system.. until it goes wrong! Yes I have fixed one. :)

    14. Noukz

I truly hope someone does an EV conversion on one of these, I'd be even more giddy about it than Doug was here :-)

    15. Matthew L'Herault

My wife's 95 Ford Windstar has the built in car seats

    16. Matthew L'Herault

In the 90s minivans had only one sliding door

    17. Jason Novak

I cant believe this car's video has gotten 1 million + views in less than 10 days...

    18. Darren Embry

GMC took a similar stylistic approach to the front end of this thing with city transit buses (the RTS) and motorhomes in the 1970s! It simply cannot be improved upon.

    19. Corgi Pop

My mom, who had no opinions of cars. She felt that her 1988 Dodge Grand Caravan was a "better" car than her 2001 Jaguar and said she should have kept it until she died.... Given those beliefs, she still cringed every time she saw this Olds or the similar Chevy and proclaimed that they looked like Ant Eaters.

    20. Timothy Bess

If these things had side-mounted engines, they'd look like the shuttlecraft from Star Trek TNG.

    21. Brandon the Mainline Diesel

Hey Doug! Go overseas and review an Odyssey Absolute! That'll be epic.

    22. Mark Webster

Ugly... speak for yourself bud. It’s perfectly 90’s. Drove this beast all the way till 2008. I’m no GM fan but it was a pretty great van.

    23. Brandon the Mainline Diesel

My dad had the second generation! Much better than this version.

    24. Youssef Mrabet

I think Volvo offers (or at least offered) optional child seats or as they call it “booster cushion"... But it fits only older children!

    25. Rob Ignatov

We had a Lumina which I rolled onto its roof. It held up great. We then bought a Pontic Transport which had the 3.4 litre. It was much nicer and looked nice. They were much more comfortable than any Dodge/Chrysler minivan I drove from that era. Plus you forgot the tell people they were Fiberglas sand never rusted like the other minivans.

    26. Log Cabin Man

I wanted one so bad in the 90s!!!! They are cool!!!!

    27. Erdem Enveroglu

İt's a europeans popular trend setter van Espace's big copy. But I like quirky cars.

    28. dalesworld

Capatin Picard did the voiceover for the TV commercial. Wait - that was the Pontiac Transport - which is the same thing.

    29. john gotti

When you think what kind of car would suit doug this is it! 😂😂

    30. Ahsan Ahmed

Literally parks in front of no parking 🤣🤣😂

    31. Red Mustang 1976

Makes me think about those European minivans like the Renault Espace or Renault Scenic.

    32. Paul Bowland

Hey Doug... How did you get your job reviewing automobiles for a living? I wish I had a job like yours. Good job reviewing these automobiles! 😎😎😎

      1. oussema trabelsi

He used to work for Porsche as a salesman, then started writing some articles in car enthusiast websites, he did some vidoes on IRsel and they took off.

    33. opb

Doug, please do review on a Nissan NV 3500 hd van.

    34. anything7441

      Worst voice for speaking EVER.

    35. Ronnie871

I had a 96 Cutlass Supreme. Seriously the best car I’ve ever had. I miss Oldsmobile!

    36. itsnotme07

Oh I remember....I worked for Avis Rent-A-Car back in the mid 1990's. Mostly driving other "shuttlers" around to move cars from A to B and back to A, sometimes C. haha. Anyways, some days, the "Weird minivans" from GM were often the choice, unless there was a Dodge Grand Caravan around. I didn't mind them....quirks and features for sure HA!

    37. Dave

My dope dealer had one, she used to cook meth in the back

    38. ApolloSynths

We had the next generation of the Silhouette (the rounded one like the Chevy Venture), and that door noise was always weird. The first time we got it home, I distinctly remember hearing it and wondering if someone was playing the flute loudly. What a weird and unreliable van

    39. teampenn2007

    40. Jessie Harbin Jr.’s Dashcam

My mom‘s best friend had a Pontiac transport minivan just like this. It looked like a giant Dustbuster LOL!

    41. Leigh Clarke

Is a quirk/feature also the haze following the car, that looks suspiciously like burning oil?... 🚙💨

    42. Leigh Clarke

      Cool t-shirt Mr DeMuro!

    43. AbbieDoobie

That noise was also on the Transport, I had flashbacks as soon as I heard it.

    44. Da Bruiser

My favorite minivan hands down. Old babysitter had one of these when I was a kid.

    45. middlesiderrider

In the early 2000s two friends and I borrowed one of these vans from one of said friend's older brother, and drove it from Coggon Iowa to Iowa State University in Ames. It was a bit of a drive but we had a good reason. My friend Mike had won a vintage arcade machine on eBay. The game was called Chelnov Atomic Runner. We picked it up from a college student at Iowa State and loaded it into the back of the van. It fit great. The van cruised the highway great. And one of our other friends still owns the game.

    46. Justin Jordan

Doug I would like a review of the DeTomaso Pantera

    47. bhirmiz

Its was designed to be like a plane and plane cockpit

    48. tchouzebra

In ejrope we had the same vehicle sold as a pontiac name was TranSport

    49. TheMongex

I think this mini van was sold in Argentina as the Chevrolet Lumina... rebadging?

    50. Pekka Kilpeläinen

No other car has those triangular front side windows? How about Citroën C4 Picasso?

    51. Bill Olsen

4:24 Hey! The kid now has his own ashtray next to the built-in child car seat!

    52. Ratzfourtyfour

This guy gets 1M views on an Oldsmobile Silhouette vid. Geez how does he do it.

    53. parker gordon

Nobody: Oldsmobile Silhouette power sliding doors: WOOOOOooooOOOOOOOooooooOOOOOOOOoooooOoOoOoOoOoOoooo

Has anybody said here ,"It's the Cadillac of minivans" ? From Get Shorty

    57. tr v

I borrowed my pastors Lumina van for a weekend back in the day. They honestly don't drive all that bad.

    58. Donny Yario

The door closing song triggered so many childhood memories holy shit

    59. Shariq Yar

When they put the vents in the back in the Bentley GTC, that's luxury, but here that's weird.

    60. diesel scout

A friend of mine's parents had the Chevy version and I haven't heard that door closing warning sound in over 20 years.
